The Anti-Racism Touring Rider: Transforming the Touring Landscape

In our ongoing commitment to fostering inclusivity and combating systemic racism, ITC is proud to support the Anti-Racism Touring Rider (ART Rider). This initiative is designed to promote equity and diversity within the touring sector, ensuring that all touring artists and companies experience fair treatment and an inclusive environment throughout their engagements.

The ART Rider serves as a comprehensive guide and set of standards for venues and touring companies. By adopting these principles, venues and organizations demonstrate their commitment to anti-racism, providing a safe, respectful, and equitable environment for all artists and staff, regardless of their race or background.

Key Elements of the ART Rider

The Anti-Racism Touring Rider includes the following core components:

  1. Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion: Venues and touring companies must pledge to actively promote diversity and inclusion in all aspects of their operations, from hiring practices to audience engagement.
  2. Anti-Racism Policies: Establish and enforce robust anti-racism policies that address discrimination, microaggressions, and other forms of racial bias.
  3. Cultural Competency Training: Provide regular training for staff and management to enhance understanding and competency in dealing with issues related to race and inclusion.
  4. Inclusive Programming: Ensure programming reflects diverse voices and stories, promoting a broad range of cultural expressions.
  5. Support for Artists of Color: Offer specific support mechanisms for artists of color, including mentorship opportunities, mental health resources, and platforms to voice their experiences and needs.
  6. Community Engagement: Engage with local communities of color to build relationships, understand their needs, and include their perspectives in programming and operations.

Join the Movement

ITC invites all venues and touring companies to join the movement towards a more equitable and inclusive touring landscape. By adopting the Anti-Racism Touring Rider, you are taking a crucial step in creating a fairer and more inclusive environment for all.
