Using the right contract is essential. Whenever you hire someone to do work, there should be a proper contract in place. Using a vague or inappropriate contract can lead to disputes or even legal action.
You can contract confidently by using ITC’s template documents. Many of these contracts have been agreed between ITC and the relevant trade unions. This represents the gold standard for engaging people—trusted and fair for both parties.
Starting this month, we have updated the range of template contracts available to members. All ITC companies are encouraged to use contracts and rates established through collective agreements between ITC and the trade unions. These agreements are known as Fair Work Agreements. They set out industry minimums agreed upon by ITC and the trade unions Equity, WGGB, and Bectu.
Companies that use all the Fair Work Agreements can be accredited by ITC with Fair Work Approved status. This status signals to funders, unions, and the wider creative sector that a company maintains high employment standards. Fair Work Approved status is particularly valuable if you receive public funding or want to demonstrate your commitment to fair employment practices.
We, however, understand that some companies are just starting out and are not ready to start using Fair Work Agreements. For those cases, we provide two Starter Contracts: one for self-employed freelancers and one employment contract for employees.
