Vincent Dance Theatre (VDT) has been ‘moving people and making them think’ since 1994. 

Led by Artistic Director Charlotte Vincent, VDT produces intelligent, ambitious, socially engaged work that explores the complex tensions between ‘community’ and ‘professional’ practice. 

All productions are researched and created in collaboration with young, ’vulnerable’ and marginalised groups, guided by a trauma informed, consciously inclusive approach and integrating professionals and non-professionals at every stage of the creative process. 

VDT is an ensemble of multi-talented, international collaborators. The company’s production work places emphasis on the personal contribution, individual physicality and cultural background of every collaborator involved. 

VDT’s work is widely distributed on stage, on film and online and is accompanied by a wide range of Participation activity, including; Professional Development, Mentoring, Social Engagement, Teaching & Learning & Dialogue & Debate events. 

VDT provides a public platform for those whose voices might not otherwise be heard and by so doing continues to make significant claims for gender equality, equality of opportunity and social change. The company places child protection, safeguarding and supporting parenting in performing arts at the heart of all aspects of its practice. This inclusive approach earned VDT an ‘Outstanding’ Creative Case for Diversity status from Arts Council England in 2018/19 and again in 2019/20.  

VDT is a National Portfolio Organisation, funded by Arts Council England and based in Brighton, UK. VDT is currently an Associate Company at Brighton Dome.
