curious directive

South East

Since 2008, curious directive has explored life through the lens of science.

Between 2018-2022 we are an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation.

Our theatre work takes place on two scales; firstly, small scale digitally-led productions such as Frogman (2017) and Gastronomic (2018). Secondly, mid-scale theatre work such as Fringe First Winning Your Last Breath (2011), Pioneer (2014) and Spindrift (2016). Our work is critically acclaimed, with 15 prestigious arts-science nominations and awards, and published by Bloomsbury/Methuen. Our shows are seen across the UK at Theatre Royal Plymouth and Shoreditch Town Hall with previous and future commissions from the National Theatre Immersive Storytelling Studio, LIFT and Warwick Arts Centre. We regularly work with world-leading science institutes (Wellcome Trust and CRUK) and University Public Engagement departments both in the UK (Uni of Birmingham) and internationally (Dartmouth College, USA).

We are stewards of theatre innovation, forging sustained relationships between science communities, theatre-goers and technology partners, pursuing layered and emotionally charged science-led theatre.
