James Cousins is a rising star in British Contemporary dance world. Since graduating from London Contemporary Dance School James has danced for Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures, Marc Brew and Yolande Yorke Edgell. In 2011 he won the inaugural New Adventures Choreographer Award which resulted in him premiering his first full evening of work to a sold out audience at Sadler’s Wells. Since then he has been commissioned to make work on the National Ballet of Chile, Scottish Ballet, Oper Graz and Royal Ballet of Flanders. In 2014 he formed the company, James Cousins Company, with creative producer Francesca Moseley and the first programme of work has toured the UK as well as Chile, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and the Philippines to acclaim from both audiences and critics, as a result of being part of the British Council Edinburgh showcase in 2013.
Working in collaboration with a range of artists, we aim to inspire, engage and entertain audiences by creating high quality and compelling dance productions that balances intimacy with large-scale production values, transporting audiences into unique worlds on stage. At the heart of the company’s work is a rich and diverse learning and participation programme, driven by James’ passion for nurturing and developing young talent.
