Patel began training in Bharatanatyam (1990) under the guidance of Kiran Ratna. She has
since worked with Bharatanatyam and contemporary dance professionals; Mavin Khoo,
Lloyd Newson, Pushkala Gopal, Darshan Singh Bhuller & more.

Having toured with companies; DV8 Physical Theatre, Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company,
David Hughes Dance Company and Mavin Khoo Dance amongst others, she has gone on to
present her own work to sold out audiences at The Clore Upstairs, Royal Opera House,
Sadler’s Wells, Purcell Room, and toured across the UK, India, France & Portugal (2009-
2017).
Her most recent works with Gandini Juggling and Not Today’s Yesterday have won
numerous awards i.e. A Total Theatre Award, Asian Arts Award, ArchAngel Herald Award,
Best Dance Show at Adelaide Fringe and The Peace Foundation Award.
Achievements:
 Produced an award-winning short dance film, The Art of Defining Me (2013), which
gained national & international acclaim.
 Judged, mentored & advised BBC Young Dancer (2015/7)
 Winner of Washington S&R Award for championing Bharatanatyam in the diaspora
(2017)
 Selected as highlighted emerging artist for Edinburgh British Council Showcase
 Recipient of AID funding (2016)
