What is this course about?
This course will enable you to both run and/or be part of a strong and effective board.
By the end of the session, you will:
• Understand the roles and responsibilities of Board members
• Have strategies for getting the best from your Board
• Have explored recruitment, induction, and engagement of board members
• Understand relevant company and charity laws and processes relating to boards
• Have practical ideas about how to be a more effective board member
• Be able to run better board meetings / contribute more to board meetings
• Understand the professional development opportunities of being on a board
• Understand the Chair/CEO relationship
In light of the Covid19 pandemic, this course will observe the challenges faced by chairs and directors/trustees, and examine what the board’s role and responsibilities are at this still uncertain time.
Who is this course for?
This course is aimed at companies with existing boards they would like to develop or those wanting to develop and recruit new boards. We encourage both senior managers and board members to attend. The learning from the session can be applied to a range of situations and sizes of organisations from small project-to-project companies to large venues.
This course offers a mix of the trainer’s presentation and group discussion. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and share your own experiences.
Charlotte Jones is the Chief Executive of ITC. She trained as a lawyer and has many years of experience in negotiating contracts and representing ITC and its members to funders, supporters, politicians, the press and media, development agencies, and the wider creative and cultural sector. Charlotte advises and trains senior managers and boards on all areas of governance, running a range of workshops, courses and board away days for ITC members.
