Safeguarding for the Performing Arts

This course aims to help you identify and understand safeguarding concerns, issues and responsibilities when working with children, young people and vulnerable adults in the context the performing arts industry.

By the end of the course you will have explored and have an understanding of:
- What is safeguarding and relevant legislation
- The safeguarding issues that you may encounter in a workshop, performance and workplace settings
- The necessity for the prompt and effective reporting of incidents and concerns
- DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) and Child Licencing requirements
- How to start/adapt and implement a Safeguarding Policy and Procedure for your organisation

This course is an delivered as a seminar with plenty of opportunity for questions, discussion and learning from fellow-participants’ experiences.

Target Audience

The course is aimed primarily at those that work with and provide performing arts activities and performances for and with children, young people and vulnerable adults. This course would also be useful for board members that need a understanding of safeguarding.


Rebecca Manson Jones is the is Link Governor for Safeguarding on the Board of Governors for a local SE London Secondary School. She has recently been appointed at Artistic Director/Joint CEO of 'Spare Tyre', previously she worked for Oily Cart and founded 'Just Jones' and she is also Co-Chair of 'What Next? Lewisham'.
