As face-to-face training is not currently possible, Joanna Ridout is delivering an adapted digital version of her Effective Fundraising course on Tuesday 5th May 9:30am - 1:30pm (including short breaks).
This interactive online session will focusing on fundraising through trusts, foundations and government sources. It will acknowledge the current situation, whilst focusing on how to identify and confidently communicate with potential funding partners in future.
This four-hour introductory course is aimed at those new to fundraising and those who wish to review their fundraising techniques in a workshop setting.
By the end of the 4 hours, you will be able to:
- Define the main selling points of your organisation
- Identify potential funders and the messages they want to hear
- Take advantage of unexpected opportunities
- Make effective cases for funding support
- Build and nurture funding partnerships
- Develop a long term structured approach to fundraising
This is ITC's debut online training course and Joanna will use Zoom to present and set exercises. There will be the opportunity to ask questions and relate the information to your own situation. Course notes and reference materials will be emailed in advance. To gain the most from the day, you will find it helpful to do some preparation - more information for this will be emailed in advance.
Joanna Ridout is an experienced arts manager, having worked with a range of touring companies and mixed-arts venues for over 30 years. She has always been involved in fundraising and specialises in trusts, foundations and statutory partnerships. She is currently a lecturer at University of Winchester on the MA in Cultural and Arts Management. Joanna has considerable experience in devising and delivering short courses in person and online.

Top Tips for using Zoom
- Make sure you have a strong reliable internet connection. This is imperative to getting the most out of the session and connecting with people.
- It is best to use Zoom on a PC or laptop, tablets can be used but some of the features are limited.
- Your video/webcam and microphone will need to be on for this course.
- If possible, try to use a headset instead of your computer’s built-in audio. Zoom works just fine with the built-ins, but the quality is even sharper with higher quality hardware.
- Your camera should be at eye level. Adjust your camera if it is too low or high, if possible seeing you from the chest or waist up is good, instead of just seeing your face. Make sure you have a comfortable chair.
- Lighting can make a difference - position yourself so that most of the light is coming from in front of you (behind your monitor), instead of behind you. If you have a window behind you, shut the blinds, otherwise your face will be difficult to see.
- Find a quiet space for the duration, shut the door, ask people not to disturb you, silence all notifications from all devices, including phones and mute yourself as necessary.
- Have some water to drink, a notebook and a pen available.
